February is well-known as one of the most tiring months of the year. The short winter days are taking their toll, the weather is a bit grey and drizzly, colds and flu are still doing the rounds, and spring seems a long way off. If you’ve managed to avoid a virus in the last few weeks, you’re lucky. If you haven’t you’ll be feeling a bit run down to boot.

The great thing about February is that although everything looks a bit dark and dismal, the first green shoots of spring are already beginning to appear – and all that budding potential is changing the energy around us – both in nature and in our minds. Instead of feeling cosy and cocoony (great word, not sure about the spelling…) we can feel restless and frustrated, looking for more out of life. And frustration is more tiring than anything I know.

So my first suggestion is to end the frustration. Take your life by the horns and discover your life purpose. It’s a simple, quick and magical exercise that will change the way you look at your life – and keep you energised through even the longest winter. You can make an appointment with me – or download the ebook by clicking on the links at the side – and work out what you really want to do with your life before another year goes by.

Nine other things that can help you feel more energised are:

  1. Supplement a daily dose of Vitamin D3 (your summer stocks have run out)
  2. Switch from white-grain to whole-grain bread, pasta, brown rice etc (the extra B vits will boost your energy)
  3. Increase your intake of dark green leafy veg (to elevate Magnesium levels)
  4. Confine your caffeine to mornings only (to give your adrenals a rest and help you sleep)
  5. Include some red meat in your diet every now and again (to top up iron levels) or dark chocolate if you’re a vegetarian.
  6. Increase your intake of citrus and kiwi fruits (the Vitamin C will support tired adrenal glands)
  7. Consider a herbal tonic like Solgar Rhodiola (great for increasing focus and stamina)
  8. Sleep more (Doh)
  9. Spend more time outside in nature.

By the time you’ve done all those, it’ll be March and the sunshine will be on its way! Have a fab weekend!

New Year started well with a bunch of really good friends around the table, lots of good food and laughter and the promise of more to come. Not surprisingly, the conversation turned at one point to our resolutions and it turns out most of us don’t make them. But I do. I always have. One of the few benefits of having a scathing inner critic is the ability to evaluate what I’m doing and make a contract with my nagging inner voice to change. And there can’t ever have been a more promising day to make resolutions than 1.1.11.

This year I’m going ‘macro’ with my resolve, in the belief that the bigger picture created by these 6 rules for life will deliver on the detail too. I will…

1. Do something that makes me laugh every day.
2. Do something to make my partner smile every day.
3. Spend more time with my friends.
4. Eat only when I’m hungry.
5. Let my body tell me what to eat and when to stop.
6. Make all decisions by choosing the option that ‘feels’ better inside.

…and know that the increased health and happiness that this creates will lead me in the way I need to go for everything else to fall into place.
